Keep Personal Data Safe with Samsung Secure Folder
Smartphones today carry far more than contacts and messages. From office documents to personal photos and banking apps, a lot of sensitive information lives on our devices. That’s where Samsung Secure Folder becomes useful. It creates a protected space on your phone where private content stays locked and out of sight.
Built into most Galaxy smartphones, this feature is designed for users who want extra privacy without installing third-party apps or changing how they use their phone daily.
What Samsung Secure Folder Actually Does
Secure Folder works like a private container inside your device. Anything placed inside it—apps, images, videos, or documents—remains separate from the rest of your phone’s data. Even if someone accesses your device, they won’t see what’s stored inside this space.
The protection is powered by Samsung Knox, which encrypts data at the system level. You can secure the folder using a PIN, password, pattern, fingerprint, or face recognition, depending on your device.
Although it appears as a normal app, Secure Folder is designed to stay discreet. You decide how visible it should be and how it looks on your phone.
Setting Up Secure Folder on Your Samsung Phone
Most modern Samsung Galaxy devices running Android 7.0 or later already include Secure Folder.
To enable it:
- Open Settings
- Go to Security and privacy
- Tap Secure Folder
- Choose to add it to your apps screen
Once you open it for the first time, you’ll be asked to sign in with your Samsung account. After that, select a lock method and complete the setup. The folder is then ready to use.
Adding Apps and Files to Secure Folder
You can protect both apps and files using Secure Folder.
To add apps:
- Open Secure Folder
- Tap the plus (+) icon
- Select existing apps from your phone or download new ones directly into the folder
Apps inside Secure Folder run independently. For example, you can use a separate login for the same app inside and outside the folder.
To add files manually:
- Open Secure Folder
- Tap the menu icon
- Select Add files
- Choose files from your device
- Decide whether to copy or move them
Files placed here appear inside Secure Folder’s version of My Files and remain encrypted.
Samsung apps like Gallery also offer a faster option. You can select a photo or video, tap the menu, and choose Move to Secure Folder to hide it instantly.
Hiding and Customising Secure Folder
For extra privacy, Secure Folder doesn’t have to be visible.
You can remove its icon from the app drawer by:
- Opening Secure Folder
- Going to Settings
- Turning off Add Secure Folder to Apps screen
Even when hidden, it remains accessible through phone settings.
Customisation options let you change the folder’s name, icon, and colour. This helps it blend in with other apps and draw less attention. You can also access Secure Folder quickly from the notification panel if you prefer shortcuts.
Final Thoughts
Samsung Secure Folder offers a simple yet powerful way to protect personal data on your phone. Whether it’s private photos, confidential documents, or sensitive apps, everything inside the folder stays encrypted and separate from the rest of your device.
With strong security from Samsung Knox and flexible control over visibility and access, Secure Folder creates a reliable private space for everyday smartphone use.
